On October 28th. over 250 drummers and percussion enthusiasts gathered at the new Axe Music Calgary Megastore to experience one of the most dynamic drumming events in recent memory. Dennis played and spoke for over 3 hours to a sold out crowd!

BIOGRAPHY

Dennis Chambers is at the top of the heap; the pinnacle of DRUMMERS and DRUMMING… and now, AXE MUSIC, along with ERIKSON MUSIC, the Canadian distributors of PEARL DRUMS, brings his AXEplosive AXEpertise to the AXE MUSIC MEGASTORE Calgary, and IN THE ROUND,
to WOW the drummers of Western Alberta!

Dennis has recorded and performed with John Scofield, Steely Dan, Stanley Clarke, Parliament/Funkadelic, John McLaughlin, Niacin and Mike Stern to name but a few, and has now held the resident drum throne with Santana for the better part of almost 10 YEARS!!!

Despite a complete lack of formal training, Chambers has forged his own unique brand of inventive drumnastics… becoming AXEtremely well-known among drummers for his impressive technique and speed! Despite his “chops that never stops”, Dennis is highly revered for his ability to play "in the pocket", while still maintaining that AXEplosive ability to stretch that pocket in the most AXEciting of fashions, one of the hallmarks of his incredibly AXEciting technique.

Chambers exhibits a powerful style that is technically proficient, yet highly musical and groove-oriented, while playing in a wide variety of musical genres… yet remains most noted fro his playing in the jazz-fusion, funk, and Latin Music realm...

He has become widely respected for his “fast hands”, and his ridiculously incredible bass drum triplets, while still taking the time to insure he has a helping role in the development of many other young players… the most prominent being Tony Royster Jr.

Chambers began drumming at the age of four years old, was gigging in Baltimore-area nightclubs by the age of six, and in ‘78 (at18 years old), he joined Parliament/Funkadelic, and stayed until 1985. In the early 90s… he joined the John Scofield Band and has since played with most of the major figureheads in the jazz/fusion genre, perhaps none greater than the inimitable John McLaughlin!

Recently, he has been part of the Maceo Parker live band, while holding court with SANTANA for almost a decade now…and continually touring with his own band NIACIN, while always finding time to deliver opportunities for young drummers to AXEperience his immense talent first hand through clinics and seminars of this nature!

Dennis plays Pearl drums, Zildjian cymbals, and Evans drumheads and brings his tremendous and musically diverse drumming vocabulary to the AXE MUSIC MEGASTORE Calgary.
