Humidification
It is recommended that acoustic guitars with a solid top be humidified to
prevent damage from our dry climate (Especially during the winter months).
Edmonton’s average relative humidity is too low most of the year and
warranty claims demand storage of your instrument at a humidity level no
lower than 45%. Axe recommends you follow these steps for humidifying your
solid top or laminate top acoustic guitar.
1. Guitar humidifiers are available at Axe Music. It’s necessary that you
use a humidifier when the humidity drops below 45%. In our area it is nearly
impossible to keep a guitar at this percentage and using a humidifier
whenever the humidity drops below 30% generally insures your guitar’s
safety.
2. Always store your guitar in it’s case when not being played. Leaving your
guitar on a stand or hanger minimizes a humidifiers effect. Household
furnace humidifiers generally are NOT adequate!
3. When storing your guitar, make sure that you remove all books, paper,
cardboard, desiccants, or materials that will absorb moisture from your case. Using a cardboard box is only acceptable for transporting and never
for storage of your guitar.
4. Initially, check the moisture of the humidifier every 2-3 days. As the
guitar absorbs more moisture you will notice the humidifier requiring less
moisture. This is an ideal state and you will only need to fill the
humidifier every week or two at this point.
5. It is best to use de-mineralized water or distilled water to fill the
humidifier. If you use a regular tap water, the humidifier will hold less
and less water. As the water evaporates, it leaves mineral deposits in the
humidifier. Allowing mineral deposits to accumulate will displace the water
and break down the humidifier. |

A Guitar Set Up
This is the procedure of making
various adjustments to the instrument to allow it play the way the player
wants it to. This is not warranty work. It is a custom tune up. A set up
will be necessary from time to time to keep the instrument playing properly.
Set ups and repairs are done on a first come – first served basis, and AXE
Music is proud to have Guitar Doctor, one of the foremost guitar service
teams in Canada, performing this work Monday through Saturday each week. It
is recommended that you allow 2-3 weeks for your set up. Sometimes a free
set up is included with the purchase of your instrument to be redeemed
within 60 days. To claim your free set up, you must show your sales receipt
at the time of sign in. After this 60-day period, it becomes the owner’s
responsibility for set up. Remember, manufacturers do not provide this
service as part of their warranty. A typical set up costs approximately
$75.00. …just another way of saying “Thanks for shopping at AXE!”
Please fill out the Service Order Form completely when dropping off your
instrument. If you have any concerns regarding your instruments playability
or have any special considerations, like specific string gauges or your
style of playing, please include that information on the sign-in form.
Set-ups are NOT done while you wait. Special considerations may be available
to people living out of town or province, but arrangements should be made in
advance.
More information regarding set-ups:
Most guitars are set-up from the manufacturer with a specific set of
strings. Please let us know your string preference and/or alternate tuning
methods at the time of sign in. Some electric guitars have a floating
tremolo system and MUST be set-up for a specific string gauge and/or tuning
standard.
Electric guitars and bass set-ups include the
following procedures:
1. Cutting down of rough fret ends (caused by wood shrinkage).
2. Oil treatment of fret board (to protect wood).
3. Adjustment of the truss rod (to compensate for string tension)
4. Adjusting the action (height of strings from frets) at bridge.
5. Adjusting the action at the nut.
6. Alignment of the neck and tightening of hardware.
7. Setting correct pickup heights and testing all electronic functions.
8. Setting the intonation (this insures accurate tuning at all locations on
the neck).
Acoustic guitar set-ups:
An acoustic guitar set-up includes items 1
through 6 of the above set-up procedures. Please note that set-ups do not
cover any cosmetic repairs. These are repairs that include scratch and dent
removal or repairs of damaged finishes. Repairs to finishes are not covered
as part of the manufacturer’s warranty.
Warranty periods vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Please check with
an Axe Music Sales or Service representative to verify the warranty details
for your instrument.
It is important to hang on to your original bill of sale to be eligible for
Warranty claims. We’re sorry, but manufacturers do not accept credit card
slips, credit card statements, or debit card slips as proof of purchase when
presenting a claim for warranty service.
Only your original bill of sale will validate your claim.
Thanks again for your purchase!
